Roughly 40,000 Americans are killed every year in motor vehicle crashes. This session will focus on defensive strategies that can help you avoid collisions and make our roadways safer for everyone.
Topics to be covered include:
1. Benefits of defensive driving
2. Preventability versus fault
3. Avoiding rear-end collisions
4. Distracted driving
5. Seat belt use
6. Driver safety awareness tips
The presentation will describe how to identify and safely enter confined spaces that pose hazards, focusing on the requirements of OSHA’s regulations.
Pat Haage is a Senior Risk Control Advisor for Flood & Peterson Insurance, and is based in Fort Collins, CO. He has been in this position since September of 2020 and has been in the insurance loss control field since 1986. Pat began his career in safety as a Loss Control Representative for Safeco Insurance in Lakewood, CO, and moved to the insurance agency side of the business in 2001. He has provided safety and claims management consultation services to organizations in a wide variety of industries including health care, manufacturing, construction, transportation, energy, service and retail. Pat is a Professional Member of the American Society of Safety Professionals and holds a leadership position in the Rocky Mountain chapter. He is a past chairman of the Colorado Cost Containment Board and was re-appointed to this board by the Governor of Colorado in 2020. Pat is a Certified Safety Professional and also holds the designations of Associate in Risk Management and Associate in Loss Control Management.
Monica Morris is a safety professional with more than 15 years of experience. She graduated from the University of Central Missouri with a bachelor's degree in Industrial Safety Management. Before working with the CSU Health and Safety Consultation Program, Monica worked in the renewable/bioenergy industry where she provided comprehensive environmental, health and safety compliance management. Outside of work, Monica enjoys an active life with her husband and two children exploring Colorado, snowboarding, biking, gardening, camping, and live music.
